Dear IDS Colleagues, It is with enormous sadness and a heavy heart that I must inform you that our dear friend and colleague Daraka Thanapirom passed away at 10.40pm on Saturday night, 17 October 2009 in Bangkok following a very brief illness. Daraka was born in Bangkok in 1957 and was the youngest of 3 brother and sisters. For those who knew her, Daraka demonstrated a boundless energy, a wonderful sense of humour and a passion for life that touched all who she encountered. Above all, Daraka was one who always carried herself with great dignity and a genuine caring for others. Daraka had been with IDS since our formation in April of 1999, but in reality her career in the Manufacturing business covers over 22 years following her recruitment to the Jawa Company, later to become Inchcape. Daraka started out in her working life as a Medical Representative with Bristol Myers Squibb, but then later joined the Company and steadily worked her way up through the ranks to become Managing Director of IDS Manufacturing. In her career with IDS, Daraka was a tireless leader, passionate in her resolve, always giving her best. In many ways, IDS was her life. The most poignant illustration of that was her profound words she spoke when we celebrated the commencement of our 10th Anniversary celebrations in Bangkok in February this year: “I am delighted with my career progression at IDS. Luckily I was married before IDS took over, otherwise I would have ended up being married to IDS instead.” One of the most significant contributions she made was the establishment of the Listerine plant for Pfizer (later Johnson & Johnson). Not once but twice she led the resurgence of our Listerine operations, the second time to secure all the critical licenses for all countries in Asia Pacific, especially for Australia and Japan. Similarly, “I am delighted with my career progression at IDS. Luckily I was married before IDS took over, otherwise I would have ended up being married to IDS instead.” Daraka Thanapirom Managing Director – Manufacturing IDS Thailand Daraka graciously accepted the challenge when we most needed her to return again as Managing Director of Manufacturing Thailand in July this year. At this sorrowful time, on behalf of all of us at IDS we send our heartfelt condolences to her husband Khun Prawit Thanapirom and her son Champ of whom she was enormously proud. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and all her family. The funeral rites and wake for Daraka will be held daily at 6:00pm from 18-24 October 2009 at the Somanas Temple located at Rajaworawihan, 464 Krungkasem Road, Samanas, Promprabsattuprai, Bangkok. Our Company will be hosting the service on Tuesday 20 and Saturday 24 October 2009. To keep the memory of Daraka alive, we are now in the process of building a memorial website for Daraka which will be launched in the next few days. This will be a private website for friends and colleagues to post their messages of condolences to the family and memories and photos of Daraka. The Company will soon also organize a fundraising program which will be donated to renovate the meditation room at Chantarasuk Temple, Daraka’s favorite temple, in her name. Details of the memorial website and the memorial contribution will be circulated soon. Daraka will be sadly missed by all of us - her friends and colleagues at IDS. Warmest regards, Ben Chang Group Managing Director
